Messias Vertelli was born in Castelo Branco, Portugal, and since an early age he started writing poetry and painting. “I used to spend a lot of time painting with my cousin, Jacinto, without realising that sometimes two days had passed and we were covered in paint with the same record having played over and over …”. Eventually we decided to do an art show, and with hours of endless ideas and perhaps one more record or two, the artworks were finally on the wall. Our first show…” My teenage years were fulfilled with music and painting, which led to me creating a radio program called ‘Dell Arte’ (Radio Beira Interior) and co-founding a music theatre show with Daniel Pires called “Pensamentos” (poetry/indie-classic music with two violins, one cello, one guitar, one bass, two vocal artists, two actors)” England was where I wanted to experience, and gain more knowledge of, the work I so much admire …I worked and studied in London, and went on to Bristol to do my degree in Fine Art. I studied at The Faculty of Art & Design, Bower Ashton, UWE, where I obtained a BA(hons). This is where I got involved in music with Suv (Reprazent/Roni Size) and did poetry and vocals on his album ‘Follow the Sun’.” Various exhibitions and projects ensued. One of which was a solo exhibition at ‘Severn Shed’ Bristol, supported by Daddy G of Massive Attack. I started donating works to the annual TEMWA auction, a project which showcases Bristol’s best street artists and auctions their works to raise money for projects in Malawi. In Bristol I also met Claudia Aurora, a Fado singer/songwriter for whom I wrote and performed vocally on ‘Naufrago’ (Castaway) and co-wrote 'Entrega'(Deliverance) for her acclaimed album ‘Silencio’.” In 2009 I co-founded ‘Bristol-Lisboa-Gallery’ in Campo de Ourique, Lisboa, Portugal, a gallery which specialises in contemporary art and innovative projects.” My work varies from video/poetry to collage, and oil painting, and my works are part of various private collections , including that of the actor Jim sturgess and the musician Guy Calhoun.” When I am painting or creating I feel the words coming to me as sentences filled with colour, and the classic or jazz music playing on the radio echoes the development of my work. I paint losing all sense of time and engaging my imagination as if writing with colours and compositions.” Shows and events 2018 Rosa Bar.Bristol(permanent show) 2014 Don't feed the colours/ art show with Jim Starr .
