This work belongs to the Meditation Series in which I explore what it means to be in a meditative state while painting. During making of the work, I eliminated all the exterior elements such as music, sound, and visual stimulations and distractions; instead, I wholeheartedly observed the ebbs and flows of my thoughts from within - without any judgment and analysis - in an attempt to truly embody the concept of being "in the moment." In this particular piece, I express the breaking of the moment or the inevitable inability to stay in the moment as the mind bounces back and forth from different thoughts and succumbs to distractions. The process of creating this work involved first gluing several layers of paper then peeling them in a horizontal movement once surface dried sufficiently.

Young makes abstract paintings with paper. At the core of her practice, she explores the concept of impermanence as it relates to life, and the beauty of such mercuriality and unpredictability embedded in the life form. Techniques and process are key to expressing her intention as she unearths the essence of the theme of ephemerality by peeling away colored paper that was first meticulously layered and copiously built up. She is inspired by this process of building and removing intricate layers in order to reveal what is underneath and between – birthing something entire new from the ashes of destruction. In her body of work, melding her past experiences and passion together, Young combines elements from art, design, and craft. Young received her BA in Philosophy from Occidental College, and post graduate studies in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. Her paintings have been exhibited and placed by galleries and collectors throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
