About The Artwork

The painting 'Unmapped' had (or has) many alternative titles. It could have been called 'The Red Boat' which references it to the Impressionist's paintings of boats which was an inspiration, and it kinda reminds me of the American Artist Cy Twombly. The painting could have been called 'Voyage of Discovery' as the 'story' soon grew as I painted that the boat was going somewhere but it didn't know exactly where. Which explains the white canvas the boat is headed for. And for that reason it could have been called 'Unchartered Territory', or 'New Ground', or 'Off The Map', or 'Into The Future' as that is where the boat is going. And then there was a dark patch. And I thought "Wait a minute. That dark colour could be seen as negative. But this boat is about optimism, voyaging into the future to find the 'gold' that is no doubt out there". So, I repainted it. I have tried a number of things. Thing is when your heading into the unknown what do you paint? I settled for a cheerful splash of orange towards which the boat is aiming, to represent hope and optimism. Here's hoping. Size: 20 inches wide and 16 high. Any questions please ask.

Self taught he has Painted, Illustrated, worked outside of Art, been to Art Schools ( long ago and far away, -the first one had a large library with a great section on Painting ( and most other things ) where he spent many entranced hours, did much life drawing and (more) Art History. At the second school he studied graphics. After a time as an Illustrator he changed direction. Art History says that some Artists left Financial Services in order to to take up their work as Artists. He follows this trend with a slight twist of his own.. He has painted in many 'styles' over time and sold off and online. Painting was what he loved doing as a child, as a school boy and as an adult. " I still have that 'thing' that makes me want to paint". .......
