Tea Vine 1 (and 2) are acrylic and paper collage paintings on cotton canvas. The main background consists of textural blocks of collaged plain and floral-textured paper, with smaller vertical stripes of textured paint stencils in similar repeating block patterns. Segmented among these are botanical/floral panels painted in acrylic ink washes over brayered and palette-knife backgrounds. Metallic copper, bronze, and iridescent green washes tint the whole painting. These were inspired by a local tea-shop in Chandler, Arizona, whose exquisite teas, black iron teacups, and rust/celadon decor were the perfect refuge from Arizona heat and busy art deadlines. The pieces are unstretched, and offer a generous 5"+ self for custom stretching and framing.

I create art under the name Marian Crane (go ahead, I'm immune to the inevitable jokes because I adore Hitchcock movies.) I write and blog under the names Crane Hana, M. Crane Hana, and M. C. Hana (but they're all me, really.) I was born in northwestern New Mexico, and grew up surrounded by the spectacular landscapes, colors, and cultural blends of the American Southwest. My mixed-media paintings, fiber collages, wearable art, jewelry, and book art sculptures are inspired by my love of history, science, folk art, myth, and invention. I am fascinated with the human tendency to mix ornament and function. Since I’m a theatrical prop and artifact geek, too, I love making objects that appear as if they came out of a ‘real’ fantasy or science-fiction culture.
