‘Tea Time’, oil on slim line stretched canvas with edges painted as part of the scene. Finished in a soft sheen art varnish to avoid the glare from strong light. Strung and ready to hang with title, signature and date label on rear. A portrait of Clara my childhood friend’s mum as remembered from the late 60s early 70s. My friend had many brothers and sisters & their home was always a hive of activity. I returned to my home town a few years back and decided to visit my childhood haunts. I visited Clara and was struck by how quiet it was when I entered the house. Clara was all alone in the once hectic household, the children grown and dispersed. Much as I had done myself many years back. I depicted Clara in the style as I remembered her & the colours of the period. I added the sparrows as her children. Sparrows are represented in many of my works. Their presence in my garden reminds me of a family & the chatter mimics the sounds of children at play.
