This is the second of two paintings of Staple Street, in Tribeca, NYC. When studying a location, I will usually pick one vantage point to do the final painting. With this subject, I felt that these two views both would make good paintings and had different enough vibes that it would not be repetitive. As with the first, it features the overhead footbridge that connected the old House of Relief and the ambulance annex of the New York Hospital. It is morning, with the light shining in from the east, lighting the cross streets. There are three figures: one is alone, one is walking a dog, and the other pushing a stroller.

Award winning realist painter Nick Savides learned to paint from his mother at 3 years old and never stopped. Inspired by the works of Edward Hopper, the quiet energy within his art captures both a palpable sensation of light and of place. Mr. Savides has been published twice by Nabi Press, featuring urban images of New York City and Paris, as well as landscapes of upstate New York. www.nicksavides.com facebook.com/nicksavidesart
