About The Artwork
This painting was started en plein air, on the beautiful Mendocino coast of the Pacific Ocean. Yet it is close to impossible to catch the glorious moments of sunset in direct painting -- and the weather didn't cooperate: even though I returned to the same spot several days in a row, the sunsets looked different ever day. And so the painting was completed in the studio, from memory.
