About The Artwork

This painting was inspired by the 16th century Venetian tradition of pastoral concerts popularized in the work of Giorgione and Titian. The figures are modernized and somrwhat idealized. They are set in an evening landscape evoking memories of the Tuscan hilltop towns outside Florence. What is important in this picture is a contemplatuive mood, where the figues are lost in an arcadian reverie listening to the strumming of the guitar. The facial expressions and style evoke memories of Leonardo, Botticelli and Giorgione.

"There are few more satisfying and emotive experiences than making marks on a piece of paper... The process of becoming an artist in the traditional sense is embracing the set of disciplines whereby one learns to give his marks greater tangible and universal meaning to a wider audience over a longer period of time"
