About The Artwork
I was honoured to meet and paint this portrait for a truly inspirational man, Egyptian movie star and human rights activist Khaled Abol Naga, whose character and reputation are being brutally attacked by those in favour of the currant Egyptian government, yet he's still standing for justice and equality, no matter what the costs are, with a big smile on his face. I hope the viewers can empathise with the emotions shown in this portrait, even though Khaled hides them successfully in his everyday life. I chose oil because it's a fluid medium that moves around and changes with the subtle changes of the human face, making it more authentic when it comes to emotions.
