Oil on canvas 24 x 20 inch with edges painted as part of the scene. Varnished, strung & ready to hang. 'Iris Peacock' Iris flowers in the vase and Peacock feather in her hair. In Greek mythology Iris is the personification of the rainbow and messenger to the gods (signified by the letters by her side and the rainbow spectrum represented in the painting). Iris carries an ewer (vase in the painting) filled with water from the river Styx that puts to sleep all those that Perjure. Iris is associated with communication, the rainbow and new endeavours. The iris in your eye is also named after her to reflect the many colours of the eye and an eye is represented in the peacocks feather. The peacock feather is also iridescent,a word which again derives from her name. In Hindu mythology the peacock is messenger to goddess Kaumari.
