I always find the theme and motif from the natural sources around me. And through them, I learn the way of life as well as the mystery and beauty of nature. Since I moved to La Cresta, California ranch home I could see many horses every time. The big animal inspired me to paint and one day I saw the horse family gathered and it seems very peaceful. I try to express them with my passion and create the simple yet bold. ****Critique by John Crowther**** Color is inescapable in life, and life is inescapable in art. There is intense beauty in an overwhelming panoply of colors. A kaleidoscopic display of hues can draw a viewer in with its explosive tonal extremity. However, as evidenced in kyungsoo lee’s Horses in Red, a more focused tonal approach can be as (if not more) rewarding. Horses in Red contains substantial passages of blues, greens, and whites, but these colors (despite being masterfully mixed and deeply intriguing in their own right) are backup singers to the rouge main act. They constitute substantial painterly excursions but primarily act as visual devices to enhance and accentuate the predominant red palette. I usually get into some musings about figuration versus abstractions at this point in the critique, but Horses in Red is too tonally captivating to dwell on the form.

Kyungsoo Lee was born, raised, and educated in Seoul, Korea. She began painting as a small child, displaying a precocious talent for art and, for painting in particular. She continues today, many years later as she has always done: painting. After receiving her MFA from the Graduate School of Sungshin Women's University in 1983 and then moving with her family to California in 1984. She is among the first generation of artists to be fully trained in a combination of oriental and western European aesthetics. She approaches her canvas with apparently little or no preconceived notion of what will occur. She has the disciplined ability to quiet the verbal, analytical part of her min and allow that silent creative half of the brain to dominate. Her painting is a process of discovery, evolving from the repetition of gestures and the layering of color over color. Her perceptive color sense lends strength to the delicate line and soft tones of her imaginary natural abstractions and inner landscapes. Kyungsoo Lee was named "Artist of the Month" and given her first major solo show at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Korea in 1989. Her paintings are found in collections are around the world; collections of museums, corporations, and individuals. Her life has been a journey, and the only constant in her life is painting. She has achieved a facility to speak eloquently with the line and color, to speak poetry without words to those who are receptive. Painting is her true blue friend.
