About The Artwork

I was asked to paint the image of Ganesha. At that point I only knew the basics (Master of intellect and wisdom, good fortune, remover of obstacles) so I read and researched, watched videos of different Ganesha celebrations and festivals, of how the grass garlands are made, how the sweets that he likes are cooked... And I also looked at many images and created my own version. Of the multiple attributes that he can hold I chose the rope (frees from bondings and helps to reach higher goals), the Abhaya mudra (blessing, protection, refuge), the lotus bud (spiritual purity, realised inner self, that raises from the mud) and the bowl with modaka (sweets that he likes that represent the reward to devotees). I chose red, a traditional color that represents the root chakra (vitality, survival), and seated him in a green field with the flowers he likes so much. The yellow arch of fire represents the cycle of creation , preservation and destruction. At his feet I placed offerings of the things he likes and Mushika, the mouse, that represents the worldly desires in an attitud of respect and submission but it can also represent the capacity of the rodent to erode the bondings of the ego. Ganesha, as a remover of obstacles is thus the Lord of Beginnings. His pot belly contains the whole universe, past, present and future, he processes everything, the good and the bad and does not get tired. The crown represents spritual perfection, the development of the crown chakra. He has sacrificed one tusk so it could be used as a pen by Viasa to write the Mahabarata. In another tradition it represents the ability to overcome duality. Ganesha is the symbol of he who has discovered tha divinity within himself. Ganesha is the first sound, OM. he represents the perfct balance between force and kindness and between power and beauty. As I said at the beginning I was asked to paint Ganesha. But then the commission was cancelled during my research period. But I was so taken by the spirit of Ganesha that I continued with my reserch and painted the canvas. It was a very rewarding experience.

I was born in September of 1963 in Buenos Aires under the sign of Libra. Since I was little I revered nature: the garden, Patagonia and the sea every year, where I stayed at family houses and explored forests and the dunes. Although my parents were agnostic I grew up in a Catholic atmosphere. During my adolescence I started reading spiritual literature: Buddhist, Sufi, Native American, Hindu, Taoist and Early Christianism. These texts and my love of nature, somehow announced and defined my travels in South and North America, Europe, Asia and Africa. They also shaped, along with geometry, my approach to image. I lived for some years in Patagonia, where my son was born. Now I live with my family in Victoria, Buenos Aires, where I paint and teach art classes. I also practise tai chi. I turned a hundred years old house in my home-studio that is a "U" with a garden in the middle, it reminds me of a cloister.
