We feel uncomfortable when confronted by the sources of some of our food. We have become too accustomed to clean, packaged meat in the supermarket, seemingly, we have constructed a sanitary vision within society - where cows don't shit. The ‘in-between’ from the field to the chiller section is some hazy, undefinable thing which we don’t think about and therefore does not exist. Using ANIMAL and MEAT as an example, it raises the point that; now that much of our society is so far removed from the environment and mechanics thereof, it makes it harder to care about it, to care for it. We can’t see it from our office block, we don’t think about it, therefore it does not exist. I was confronted myself, when some neighbours very kindly offered us a lamb for the freezer, it came in one piece - as you see in the painting - and I cut it up on the dinner table. There is a first time for everything. Oil on stretched canvas.

Jill Hudson BA (HONS) Fine Art A graduate of Falmouth College of Arts, I live and work in Cornwall. As an artist I am interested in depicting the beauty of the inconsequential moment - A shaft of light across the floor, a shadow through the trees in the evening. I want to capture the essence of an image which otherwise might be overlooked. My art is about the landscape of life in all its forms - its fleetingness, its poetry, its loneliness, and its reality. I have traveled in Africa and South America and gain great inspiration from exploring - I paint wherever I go. In 2005 I spent time working with Raleigh International as their Expedition Artist in Chile. On leaving the project I trekked to glaciers in southern Chile, and also spent time on Easter Island.
