About The Artwork

Painting with very fluid, poured paint requires careful timing and control, and it often leaves little room for mistakes. Abstract works are for the viewer to interpret, and everyone will see different things in them - but for me the fluid paint began to suggest floral forms as I painted this. I developed that idea as the work progressed by adding and controlling more layers of poured paint. *This work ships in a tube and is painted on the sides of the canvas so that it can either be re-stretched or framed by your local framer.* Only deep-edge canvas and artist’s quality lightfast colours have been used to create the work. The painting is protected with an acrylic varnish. Copyright Alexander Raynham © 2015. All rights reserved.

I am an artist and writer with paintings in private and corporate collections in Turkey, the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia. I live in Adana, Turkey. I am a member of both local and national jury-selected artists' associations and often participate in Turkish-government sponsored exhibitions in other countries. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but most recently my interest has been in capturing the kind of details in nature that you would usually pass by without a second glance: things like weathered rocks, broken branches and dying leaves. The idea behind this 'Vanitas' series is perhaps that the value and beauty of the ordinary things in nature lies in their impermanence. Many of my works are built up of multiple layers over a long period of time − using a variety of techniques and tools. Layers of paint are poured, glazed, scratched, and rubbed away until the desired effect is achieved. Each exhibition I take part in brings me into contact with many artists and art lovers, whose feedback and reactions to my work I find invaluable. I continue to develop new techniques and explore new approaches in order to develop my personal response to the world around me.
