Non Fiction is a collage on canvas work produced in May 2018 in Paris. The materials are simple: Vintage paper and canvas, glue and a day of cutting and organizing. The resource material is a vintage children's book – Prince Valiant that was discarded from an American library 30 years ago. The work is meant to vibrate visually and entreat the viewer to decipher the fragmented narrative from the more famous children's adventure story. It's literary cubism in a way.

MATTHEW ROSE lives and works in Paris, France. https://john-strauss-furniture.myshopify.com/collections/matthew-rose Known widely for his collage works and wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor installations, he graduated from Brown University (1981) with a degree in Semiotics/Linguistics. Influenced by Americans Ray Johnson, Jasper Johns, Joseph Cornell and a handful of French surrealists, Rose works late hours ripping apart paper and bits of text to remake contemporary life into a specific, yet unbound book, what the artist calls his “theory of everything.” "Most of my work involves collage; I cut and paste in all flavors. But I draw, paint, sculpt, find, assemble and put together words as well. I'm always working, I never close." CURRENTLY: Published Coronaville. A graphic novella about the Trump Pandemic.
