About The Artwork
1220 x 1220 mm, 48 x 48 inch. Mixed Media and Oil on Board. I started this artwork with a photo collage. I then layered oils over the collage with a portrait of a black man symbolising the struggle. This led me to look at the man in the portrait and his roots, and beginnigs as a heardboy, far from modern day struggle. The portrait was eventually covered by an outline of the heard boy, with bits of the original portrait left to show through, as a memory... Also inspired by the childhood history of Nelson Mandela. Time to complete, 2 months.
