About The Artwork

These are the first two images in the 12 that constitute the piece entitled 'Widdop'. All the photographs were taken, sequentially, during a walk around Widdop Reservoir in West Yorkshire, and the words are taken from the poem 'Widdop', by the late Ted Hughes. Ted Hughes lived a few miles away at place called Slack near Heptonstall, and I first came across the poem in a book he made with landscape photographer Fay Godwin, called 'Remains of Elmet' - Elmet being the name of an ancient territory that later became part of West Yorkshire.

'The Marsden Collective': A studio based in Marsden, West Yorkshire, and home to three artists. Howard Selina, Richard Pike, and Katerina Vitkus. Howard was born in Leeds, in West Yorkshire, and after living and working in London for many years, he finally made the move back to the north in 2006. Around 2010, after taking on a workshop space next to Hanson's, the musical instrument makers, he met two other artists who were looking for a studio space... - and so the partnership with Richard Pike and Katerina Vitkus began. More information about them can be found in the notes connected to various pieces of their work.
