About The Artwork

On a high summers day I climbed the highest hill in Western Lancashire and looked out towards the West. As I set up my camera a storm materialised on the near horizon and a thunderclap disturbed the soporific summer scene... Infrared imaging shows far greater definition and tonality in clouds, the cloud burst and lightening occurred immediately upon the start of the exposure, tentacle like nodes dropped from the cloud and for a moment I wondered if I was about to witness a small Tornado... The juxtaposed darkness and lightening turn the otherwise calm scene into an enigmatic tableaux, into all lives some rain must fall.

.Fine Art Photography, Social Documentary, Photography, . .Old Print Process, Abstract Art . . If time is a mellifluous river, then photographs are the temporal stepping stones on which the viewer can stand, mid-flow in the present to look back upon the past. As a child I sat fascinated by my father’s photography of Africa, transported by the vast landscapes and intimate portraits, eyes that fluoresced and horizons that beckoned me forth. The power of photographs to take the viewer to a place of quiet contemplation was thus instilled in me from an early age. As a young man I set out to answer the challenge of those horizons. Drifting from culture to culture the relationship of my art to time becomes ever clearer, as does a growing sense of man’s disconnection from nature, its seasons and cycles, ultimately a disconnection from the self. Through my work, I seek to distill the essence of humanity and nature, from the boundless to the intimate. From the minutiae of man’s diaspora to the grandiose wilderness of our ever diminishing world.
