So I wanted to paint an homage to the main character in the Kill Bill films, even though I am going to be honest I have never watched the films sober enough to remember them. I just remember her being a real bad ass, and I thought, well let me paint her in the midst of a slaughter, and because I like to throw that wrinkle of nudity in my paintings I decided that a breast should definitely be popped out. A torn shirt also seemed pretty realistic considering all the blades being thrown around. So I ended up working on this piece on and off for a few years, and was never quite satisfied with it. I liked it overall, but there were just little sections and details here and there I kept messing with. The big one, though, up until late 2019 she had been carrying a baby in her arms. I guess I thought this said something like "hey she's saving a baby". So I was drinking cheap beer one night and I said to myself, "You can do better than that" and for argument's sake I replaced the baby with a rabbit in a Donald Duck style sailor suit. I sure wish I could tell you where that came from, but regardless it gave me this excitement that I had lost with the piece. I started feeling like this crazy violent character ended up in Wonderland somehow, I guess she was following the rabbit, and everybody there ends up seriously regretting their choices in life. By adding the rabbit, I was finally able to solve that riddle of "Why did I paint this?" and soon after it was completed. I will add, there is one part that never changed over the years: the breast. Let's face it, I can talk about rabbits until my ears bleed, or even all the bodies piled up everywhere that I think we can all agree could be more refined. Is the guy there grabbing at her in the middle of his "last gasp", or is he just trying to catch a drop of blood from her sword on his tongue like its some kind of snowflake? I don't know what is wrong with people in Wonderland, none of that matters to me. I have painted over possibly better work without a care in the world, but I think the reason I kept trying to finish this painting over the years was because I feel like a breast that magnificent deserves a happy ending.

I became an artist at a very young age after discovering it was socially acceptable for artists to own books full of naked people. Over the years I have made pieces for fun, friends, profit, romance, to burn as sacrifices to the art gods, pass time, blend in, trade for beer, tacos, drugs, privileges or favors, while playing video games, socializing, going to sleep, doing homework or chores, on a dare, while driving, sleeping, blindfolded, with the lights out, wearing sunglasses underwater, using paint, garbage, blood, other things... I most often create figurative or expressionist paintings, even though I don't formally know what those words mean, and my process involves blocking out basic shapes and colors, and then coming back across with wave after wave of manic insanity until the details are at a place that I am happy with. Many times I will just be so disgusted with my work that I will paint over it, so most of my finished work has about 5 or 6 other paintings living underneath.
