About The Artwork

The scene is Washington Square Park. It’s a late October afternoon, and the sun is low in the sky, filtering through the trees looking west toward Washington Square South. The blurry shadows on the grass contrast with the bark on the tree in the foreground. They form an inverted triangle, mimicking the triangle of the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in the background. (The diagonal shadow is cast by the NYU Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, but that building is not visible.) A couple with their dog sit on the grass enjoying the warm autumn day.
