"The Vague Series The dictionary offers us several synonyms for the word Vague: obscure, not clearly understood or expressed, undefined, not precisely limited or determined or indistinct and many others. Somehow I felt I must apply this concept to my current work. Let me explain: when observing the artwork from a distance, the formation of a kind of horizon is almost clear; the sky and the ground are subtle but visible. Approaching, however, the painting exhibits several features such as pencil traces and colours in squares that fail in some points and sometimes try to overcome each other. For that, I intentionally chose this grid and colour painting technique because although it seems to be easy, it is a challenge requiring many layers of paint, repairs and alterations; just an artistic translation of the difficulties in adapting myself to the grid of daily obligations and limitations imposed by my new circumstances. I baptised this series of paintings with the name Vague because of its association with my recent change of country, which brought uncertainty and tribulations. Nevertheless, most of the time, I feel a kind of serenity and gratitude for the privilege of living with different perspectives. These moments present a virtual, colourful and bright horizon to my soul."

New Zealand
ANNE LOPES (born 1966 in Mirassol, Brazil) Since 2018, I have lived and worked in Auckland, New Zealand. I graduated in Law, but I never identified a single particle in me that would make me pursue this career. As soon as my eldest daughter was born in 1990, I started to seek knowledge in painting and visual arts in general, participating in several courses with private teachers and also in schools and universities. My works began to be recognized, and at that time, I established partnerships with several art galleries in Brazil as a professional artist. Soon after, I founded my art gallery, a reason that took me away from painting in 2011. This period of intense studies to better understand contemporary visual art is one of the things that interests me the most. However, I am so passionate about making and creating art myself that I found a way to reconcile the two works. Subjects that interest me today are human conscience and its relations with our planet and my own personal issues, such as my health.
