About The Artwork
The evolution of magnolia plants goes back over 100 million years. Today there are around 300 magnolia species. They come mainly from East Asia and North and South America. Many species are now endangered in their natural environment and are on the Red List of Threatened Species. The magnificent flowers aroused the interest of European botanists. Charles Plumier named the genus after his compatriot Pierre Magnol. In 1740 the first magnolia plants came to Europe. watercolor on paper
