An original painting on stretched canvas 24" x 24". This pose was taken from the three beauties located at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I used photos of FaaMai, Dok Mai, and the founder of Elephant Nature Park; Lek. I found this activist and her nature and elephant sanctuary while looking for photos of elephants to paint back in 2012. After learning the Asian elephants, like the ones seen here, are in grave danger of extinction as well as the African elephant, I became concerned and little by little involved and in love with these gentle giants. The sanctuary also has become the home of many dogs and cats rescued from the cruel dog meat trade, water buffalo, ox and other rescued animals. Each elephant has it's own care-giver, or mahout, without the use of bull hooks or chains. The animals are free to roam, swim, explore the forests and just be themselves. I love they way the pachyderms show their love for one another and the behaviors of using their trunks to check the mouths, ears of members of their herd and just hold trunks or hug one another. Most find another elephant they spend all their time with, as well as family herds. If you want to learn to love, just watch the elephants! The stretched canvas is gallery wrapped and I have painted all the edges with black. The painting has a final coat of varnish. Trunks Up! (Cheers!)

"Art is not art until a rich person buys it. Then, it is art." Pablo Picasso -- Donna Dixon is a painting artist born in Georgia, USA. She has lived in both Houston and Austin,Texas as well. Dixon, who is a life long, self taught artist, trained and worked in the Medical Lab field until an early retirement. Dixon's style has been described as Modern Expressionism. She describes her artwork as colorful and positive and says she is inspired by Impressionist painters and nature is one of her most common sources of inspiration. Elephants are one of her favorite subjects. She supports efforts to protect both African and Asian elephants, along with other endangered species. "For me it is all about the passion of life. I want to capture it with as much passion as possible. I am captured by the beauty & spiritual purity of animals and nature. This is a 'never-ending' fascination. I see all people, places and things are artworks in the making." . Dixon was honored to have artwork included in a previous collection for Saatchi Online, curated by Ms Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator at the Saatchi Gallery London. She got her kicks behind the scenes. In school, she took the opportunity to paint sets and scenic props, as opposed to acting on the stage. Today, instead of high school plays, you may spot her art in the background of Hollywood movies. Two paintings of Dixon's can be seen in the 2012 Universal Studios film 'Wanderlust' - a comedy produced by Judd Apatow, directed by David Wain and starring Paul Rudd with Jennifer Aniston.
