“The Seven Deadly Sins” Acrylic on Canvas My interpretation of the Seven Deadly Sins, lust, pride, envy, greed, sloth, gluttony and wrath, that originate from Roman Catholic theology. The expressive style, almost distorted bodies of the figures and choice of color, dehumanizes the figures, conveying the sense of evil and immorality of the sins. In contrast, the smooth strokes of the faces creates a sense of realism evoking human likeness. The green hues symbolize humanity’s attempt to conceal immorality to give a false sense of redemption, as they mask our natural skin tones. The contrast between the abstract bodies and the realistic visages, depict our inner turmoil; our struggle to accept that a degree of evil is an innate part of human nature.
