My daughter and son-in-law are very interested in Chinese history and culture. For their honeymoon several years ago they took a trip to China and had a wonderful time. Over the years while my daughter was still living with me she purchased many beautiful Chinese artifacts that still decorate my home. I felt that the vase/pot depicted in this painting had a gorgeous design so I set it up with an oriental fan and branches from a cherry tree which was in bloom. There is something just wonderful about springtime and cherry blossoms that conjure up an Oriental feeling. I paint exclusively in pastels as they retain their color perfectly as set down on the painting surface. Also, the vivid assortment of colors available are wondrous.
