About The Artwork

Watercolor is my favorite media to work with because of the bright, richness of color that can instantly effect your emotions. Painting with watercolor is both exciting and tense because the outcome is not 100% certain, in that, colors can merge and blend in unexpected ways. A simple error or unexpected result can instantly ruin a painting. Relationships of colors play an important role in the overall composition and I invest great effort and hope to get it right the first time. As people experience a scene like the one I painted here it opens the doors of imagination for them. The soft colors of the sky and the water welcome the tugboat as it heads out to sea early morning. The sunrise lights up the surface of the water as the boat glides atop. We ponder the daily life of the townspeople who occupy the beautiful shoreline homes in the distance. What is it like to live there and to enjoy this beautiful scene of color play out each morning? Hopefully, the painting will offer peace to the soul and rest for the mind for a little while as we let our imagination breath in this entire scene. Light reflections from the sun join the spotlights of the boat to contrast the lights and darks. Colors used are Purple lake, ultramarine, cobalt blue, viridian, green, cad red deep, rose madder, cad orange and paynes grey
