About The Artwork
The model has a stunning, voluptuous figure, and in the reclining pose presents a dramatic shift from sturdy, angular forms of shoulders and upper back, to a softer, counterbalancing weight of hips and thighs. I chose to paint a dark, shadowy veil isolating the upper and lower parts of the body to dramatize the contrasting shapes offered in the pose, and to add to the intrigue of a wonderful figure.

Jack O'Rourke lives and paints on the northern California coast. A graduate of the Vermont College of Fine Arts, he paints chiefly in watercolor. The nude figure is a favorite topical feature in his work, and is often interpreted in neo-expressionist style. Another important category of his work includes the rugged coastline near his home.
