This is East 6th Street at First Avenue in the East Village. The Ganesha (Hindu god of beginnings) mural, by Aida Miro, is partially obstructed by graffiti, while the message “rise by lifting others” is written over that. The mural is reflected twice in the parked car. The blue was actually from a different building nearby but seemed to work with the mural and graffiti colors. It also provided a sky-like background with windows and fire escape appearing to float above the mural.

Award winning realist painter Nick Savides learned to paint from his mother at 3 years old and never stopped. Inspired by the works of Edward Hopper, the quiet energy within his art captures both a palpable sensation of light and of place. Mr. Savides has been published twice by Nabi Press, featuring urban images of New York City and Paris, as well as landscapes of upstate New York. www.nicksavides.com facebook.com/nicksavidesart
