Old Faithful Dancing Spray Painting

I walked up to Old Faithful in the late afternoon on a summer day just as it erupted and sat down to make a watercolor sketch. What drew me to this scene was the way that the shadow of the spray cloud danced across the scene. Note that the tree line in the background is gray and that's an accurate rendering. This was only a few years after the Big Fire of 88 and all of those trees were dead. Now thirty years on they have been replaced by new growth. So this spot makes me reflect on the timelessness of nature as well as the timeliness of the eruptions as we wait for the now-overdue super volcano eruption that will erase all.
