About The Artwork

This is a new, original acrylic painting on Tyvek paper which is used to build houses. Tyvek is a strong plastic paper by Dupont which withstands staples, nails etc. I started working with this paper back in the mid 1980s while I was getting my B.F.A. in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. In May of this year, I recovered a box of sketchbooks I made during my studies at SFAI. I started a series of these big Tyvek paper paintings loosely based on my drawings and sketches from that time period. As I am now going thru my second Saturn return, this painting reflects my personal life to some degree. Older and hopefully wiser, I view myself and my relationships very differently than I did when I was younger. Acrylic paint and paint pen were used and my style is raw/funky and "not perfect". This painting and the others in this ongoing series is meant to look like a giant sketch. On the back of the paper is the logo for Dupont. I will be signing the original on the front and the back and including a personal letter from me to the buyer. This painting is 5 feet long and 3 feet high. Original painting does not have the watermark symbol. The symbol is for prints only.

Born USA. I started making art at the age of 21. I was admitted on the spot to the San Francisco Art Institute upon showing the Dean of Admissions my portfolio of Thurberesque Drawings with funny captions. Much of my artistic inspiration from my flea market finds ( vintage & rare ephemera), my huge unusual vintage, children's book collection, dance & burlesque performances, icons, symbols and images from all kinds of religions and my exploration into personal relationships. Although I have a distinctive style, I have explored many mediums- collage, painting, drawing, print making & fabric design, digital art. Some of my work is pretty and decorative but I also create ugly & raw paintings. These self therapy paintings are meant to be ugly and humourous . Kitsch, fashion, phtography, film, Children's art, German expressionism, Matisse, Dufy, Nolde, Redon as well as unknown outsider & folk+ art brut artists are have contributed to my style. My new website May 2022 www.katiepfeiffer.gallery As of February 2013, I have published my first children's ebook LULU LOOKS FOR LOVE which is available on Amazon. Old Website - www.katiepfeiffer.com 2019 Two month art residency in the Berkshires, MA and created a series of 30 paintings and drawings.
