About The Artwork
Still-Life painting gives me opportunities to develop paintings more fully. I love to observe the subject matter and carefully design and construct a work of art that is lasting. I am greatly influenced by French-Impressionists like Manet and John La Farge. They inspire me to explore color and light and space. The blue cloth in this painting is intense. It serves as a landscape that leads us into the realm of the primary objects. I wanted the subject matter to be drawn extremely well. I wanted the objects to be solid and believable. I wanted them to create a convincing space that allows us to move in and out of their relationship with one another. There is tension in the design of the space. However, the light cascading across the objects unifies the environment of the still-life giving the collector a sense of peace as they enjoy the artwork.

Born 1954 in Weisbaden, GermanyI have been an artist for over 30 years. I have been a portrait painter for most of my art career. I have painted business leaders such as the posthumus portrait of L.L. Bean for the L.L. Bean Company in Freeport, Maine, Marvin Sadik, the former director of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the late philanthropist Elizabeth Noyce for her private collection. I have painted multitudes of children portraits throughout the years. I am now painting landscapes in oils and pastels and exhibiting my work in the Northeast of the USA.
