I start abstract works with no particular image in mind, concentrating at first on establishing a good balance of colour, tone and texture. As the work progresses a theme, image or idea will appear, and I then develop the work accordingly. Each work is built up from many layers of paint - in this case poured across the surface, imprinted with various natural and artificial materials, overpainted in places and then glazed with more layers of paint. This is a process which often takes a long period of time.

Abstract works are for the viewer to interpret, and everyone will see different things in them, although the title hints at my own feelings when creating this piece. I am inspired by nature – sometimes close-up textures and organic shapes, sometimes light and weather, and sometimes nature in the widest sense of the cosmos. If you have any questions about this particular artwork, feel free to contact me at the email on my profile page.

*This painting is shipped in a tube, and can easily be restretched by your local framing shop.*

Only deep-edge canvas and artist’s quality lightfast colours have been used to create the work. The canvas is painted on the sides, and protected with a two-coat acrylic spray varnish.

About The Artwork

I start abstract works such as this one by pouring and brushing paints on the canvas in a fairly free way in order to establishing a good balance of colors, tones and texture. As the work progresses and I isolate, add and remove some of the shapes to get the right composition, a theme will usually suggest itself. I then try to develop the work in line with that theme. As I was working on this canvas, the shapes reminded me of the geological processes that form rocks and stones, usually over millions of years. Hence the name 'geomorphic'. The painting was exhibited in a one-person gallery show in 2018 and is now in the home of a private collector in Turkey.

I am an artist and writer with paintings in private and corporate collections in Turkey, the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia. I live in Adana, Turkey. I am a member of both local and national jury-selected artists' associations and often participate in Turkish-government sponsored exhibitions in other countries. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but most recently my interest has been in capturing the kind of details in nature that you would usually pass by without a second glance: things like weathered rocks, broken branches and dying leaves. The idea behind this 'Vanitas' series is perhaps that the value and beauty of the ordinary things in nature lies in their impermanence. Many of my works are built up of multiple layers over a long period of time − using a variety of techniques and tools. Layers of paint are poured, glazed, scratched, and rubbed away until the desired effect is achieved. Each exhibition I take part in brings me into contact with many artists and art lovers, whose feedback and reactions to my work I find invaluable. I continue to develop new techniques and explore new approaches in order to develop my personal response to the world around me.
