About The Artwork

After many years of figurative-expressionist painting, recently and randomly I found myself cleaning my painting palette where many paint layers accumulated during 3 years. At first it was a careless action, which slowly became a revelation. The fragments of dry paint created during the peeling, which form part of previous works, suddenly felt “right” to turn them into the raw material for new ones. An old painting became a source and inspiration for creating a new painting and so on! Beyond the re-using of materials that match my ecological point of views, on a personal level, those pieces became a metaphor of my present life. They represent my need to get inside my soul to explore my artistic nature and cast off old layers of fixations and paradigms accumulated, to rediscover the roots of my creativity. My works evolved to be a combination of bold color elements and landscapes along with figures made out of old paint fragments and sensitive charcoal lines, on canvas, recycled wood or glass.

Alexandra Lazovski, plastic artist, figurative, expressionist painter. Uruguayan born, lives and works in Israel. The challenge of creating "spot and line" intuitive works on canvas using oil or acrylic and a "one charcoal line" is part of an evolution from my "Formal Figurative" style of expression to a more spontaneous style; reflective of my state of mind art form. I was inspired by Raoul Duffy, German Art Movement "Die Bruke" and influenced by my Graphic Design background. The vibrant colors palette (reminiscent of the my Latin American mother country) together with a sensitive, black single line, reflect the need of a more dynamic, energetic and full of movement freedom of expression I strive to. The figures and landscapes are conceived from memory, out of a process of creative work, where conscious thoughts flow smoothly in a dialog between the subjective inner feelings to the so called objective outer forms. The challenge of placing less importance on the accurate representation of objects and celebrating instead the spontaneous personal expression and the act of painting itself! It's a balance of freedom and restrain - "to let what needs to happen-happen"
