This painting is a tribute to the people of Puerto Rico, who went through the ordeal of Hurricane Maria, helping each other get through the crisis and then working together to begin to rebuild. In the spirit of the Fiesta of San Juan, this painting is a colorful celebration of life, family, community and a chance for a new beginning. This painting began as a collage, many pieces that together make a greater whole, like the work, generosity and sacrifices of so many. The collage is mounted on a birch panel, which was then over-painted in textured oils. The reverse side of the wood panel has been routed with a "keyhole" so no hanging hardware or frame is required.

I'm interested in the language of abstraction, and I often use collage or multiple layers of paint to express multiple layers of experience. I work in oils, cold wax, watercolor, and sometimes alcohol inks, allowing the strengths of each medium to contribute to the overall expression of the piece. My work appears in private collections throughout the country.
