This painting is part of an ongoing series documenting piles of trash in my hometown, Austin, Texas. A city service called residential bulk collection provides households two days per year to discard large trash items. I drive for hours photographing these odd assemblages, then paint them exactly as they were arranged. Each pile evokes imponderable stories. Traces of former owners' lives emanate from the possessions they've chosen to discard.
