Part of my American Monologues series I feel, as a culture, we are very self obsessed. Very few are interested in what is taking place outside and, in contrast, the entire world is constantly watching America, and everything that happens here, from movies, fashion, music, and technology, all the way to our political circus. Somebody said it is enough to look at teenagers in every country: they all want to dress, sound, look, move, and act American. And this is not necessarily a bad thing. We have such a rich environment, such an ebullient melting pot, that our attention span is occupied. Much like an Artist’s mind must be self possessed. America is a great artist. Hence my new series, American Monologues. These are images that, through a amalgamate of disjointed elements, symbolic or trivial, somehow resonate purely American in a very contemporary sense.
