About The Artwork
Having made al lot of 'Babel' works, all of them constructed by stacking a lot of, mostly different, chair on to one another, I focussed myself on the deconstruction. As the story goes confusion arose when al the different languages ( from one type of chair to al whole range) were introduced, leading to the collapse of the tower. In this case you see a carefully arranged chaos of falling chairs forming a kind of pattern. This arrangement includes the cast shadows formed by these chairs because they are cut-out and mounted before a painted background.

Ever since I can remember I'm drawing although I had no examples whatsoever in my childhood. I grew up on a small farm near Venlo in the the south of the Netherlands. The urge to draw finally lead to the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg where I graduated in 1990 in drawing and painting.From that time on I am working on a collection mostly dominated by chairs depicted in very different ways. Perspective and perception are crucial elements in this never ending quest. These works are drawn with pencil or painted with watercolor. Still driven by my urge to draw.
