About The Artwork

This painting of a ram is for all those Aries people out there. I took the reference photo at that Hamburg zoo where this ram just came right up to me - almost as he does in this painting. The colors represent the muted browns and blue I saw in the shade/sun patterns that day. The bold presentation tells you about this animal...bold, strong, big and...yet somehow not threatening. The brushwork on this painting is lush and active. The surface of the painting is textured with the paint and has a semi gloss finish which accentuates the expression of the brush. The contrasting line work seems to 'hold' the artwork together. This work was painted on canvas and applied to a deep 100% birch wood panel stained a dark walnut brown color. You can see how the painting will look when hung in the photos above. The panel is ready to hang, including hardware.

I was once traveling with a close friend, photographing everything in sight, as any tourist does. I asked him, "Don't you want to take any photos?" He answered, "I like to remember things in my own way." What a profound statement - and one that I take seriously when I paint. My art is about remembering things . . . in my own way . . . and "disremembering" everything else. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, my artistic career began at an early age when I began painting with my mother on Sunday afternoons. Surrounded by art books, paintings and sculpture at home, I always knew I wanted to be a painter.
