This art piece is inspired by the ancient art of Cyprus. The floral motifs are a common decoration on the ancient pottery. I chose to recreate these motifs through the form of a mandala. The piece has 50cm diameter and is made from a laser cut wood painted with enamel paint.

The inspiration of this body of work is derived from the pottery images and clay idols of the ancient archaic art in my home country, Cyprus. The art in Cyprus of the Archaic Period (700-500BC) is distinguished by the unique originality of style and animated character.In this body of work I am exploring the ancient images and sculptures by placing them in a modern context based on my artistic interpretation and sensibility. I am intrigued by the idea of something ancient transforming to something more contemporary and being able to encapsulate both.
