Rowen Murphy is a self taught contemporary watercolorist. " My paintings are explorations in color, texture, pattern and subject, they evolve. For me it's about the painting of the painting- the creating of the art, the possibilities of water paint, imagination- the experimentation, loving that I don't always know exactly how the water marks will form. Learning through that. It's what keeps me creating and passionate. My paintings all have a similar thread and style, my biggest influences being the Chicago Imagists, German Expressionists and Pop Art. I'm absorbing life around me, people, aquaintances, city culture, whats happening in the world at the moment, all influence the outcome of my work.
