About The Artwork

"Anatomia di relazioni interne" (Anatomy of internal relations) (2023) - oil and oxidation on welded steel plates, aluminium frame, 170x250 cm (3 panels). This was a work with a particularly long gestation, because of its project, the welding, the mounting on aluminium, the oxidation (longer than the usual phase). The painting phase was instead relatively quick. I was so relieved when I could finally say "it's over"! I wanted a painting showing how what we are is a combination of contrasting forces, fears, fragilities. Everyday we have to face the world and the people outside, but also the different "geister" that live in us, looking for a balance between them. I have decided to leave the aluminium structure partly visible, both to show it as a fundamental part of my work as it supports the steel plates, and as an extra composition of lines and crossroads, which once again represents the intersection of forces that chase and clash. Each of the 3 panels can be hung singularly, so that the weight is better distributed, even more practical for the shipment.

Sabatino Cersosimo was born in Turin in 1974. He studied advertising design and then received a Degree in Painting and Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts of Turin in 1999. Since 2011 he lives and works in Berlin. Following a line that has its roots in a certain expressionist painting (especially the Viennese Secession) but evolves through the modern mediterranean and english realism, he uses basically two surfaces: metal and wood. Since he mainly paints with oil and oxidation on steel plates, the concepts of time, will and chance have been crucial to the development of his research. Art is historically considered eternal, but Cersosimo's paintings underscore art’s metamorphic nature. Here, we witness artwork as it is developing, shifting, and in some cases, mutating into other forms, much like the elements of nature on the planet. Cersosimo's paintings mirror constellations of humanity in tiny particles. In doing so, they feature many of the commonalities shared among human beings across culture, language, gender, and race.
