My daughter visited with her school in the small village of Mallé, in Touraine, France, and told me what happened there. The massacre of Malle took place on August 25, 1944, when a German SS battalion killed 124 civilian inhabitants of this village. My daughter Lara's account and my subsequent research led me to pay tribute to those people I never knew, but whom this small work of art recalls.
