About The Artwork
This is one of 22 collages that I made to go with a science fiction story that I'm writing. It is called "Pilgrimage" and is loosely based on "The Canterbury Tales." This collage is of Ishmael Reed, a spiritual consultant. He is the narrator of the story, and the person who suggests that the travelers tell each other stories about themselves. The background of these collages are layers of acrylic paint. The medium in this particular one has feathers, gauze and a small bird sculpture, as well as inkjet prints. The characters are all represented by members of my family. Ishmael is in real life my brother Robert.

I am a painter, photographer, printmaker and book artist. My current work consists of collages which I scan and make gel transfer prints from (in limited editions of 10). Often there is a story for each image or series of images. I also make unique artist books using these same images. I have been writing a science fiction story called "Pilgrimage" which is loosely based on "The Canterbury Tales." The square collages are all about the 11 travelers whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness. As they spend days trekking to the nearest air base, they tell stories about their childhood and other personal events to each.
