Tidal Drill

John and Valerie Brady have a tradition of inviting their house guests at Portnoo to leave a pebble with their name on in the hallway. 'Tidal Drill' was inspired by this, by Damien Hirst's dot paintings, and by considering how long it must have taken for the holes in these lovely pebbles to have been drilled by molluscs such as the Common Piddock. Visitors to West Wittering were invited to find a stone with a hole, initial and date it on the back, and place it on a nail on the grid. It's a way of contributing to a work of art, leaving a trace, and reflecting on the circle of life.
