Working with a simpler palette, with an almost monochromatic quality, these paintings are part of a series in which I am exploring the theme of Social Darwinism and Eugenics. I'am fascinated with heritage and how are lives are mapped out from birth. The opportunities that arise and the biases that condemn are path in life all come down to a roll of a dice.

Joshua Evans-Hooper is a 29-Year-old visual artist born and raised in London. He studied Fine art at Kingston University following his interest in painting and now works from his East London Studio. Joshua works primarily with diluted acrylic paint that is applied/stained thinly over canvas. Voids of paint are strategically used to deface and obscure human figures and landscapes, as well as brush strokes that often range from gestural to contained marks. The artists use of colour differs from facets of bold pigment to saturated pastel-like colours. However, a recent tangent in the artists practice has shown a restraint from colour, setting tones of a more muted and somber disposition. Joshua often uses found photographs as a vague reference point for his paintings. Using found imagery; the artist raises questions of identity and a detachment from the personal. Taking a once personal imprint and putting the figure in a domain designed by the artists choosing. The figures explore a playful intimacy and a gentle eroticism. Joshua’s work has attracted worldwide interest with paintings being held in private collections in North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. He has been included in exhibitions at the Stanley Picker Gallery and Islington Arts Factory Joshua has also been mentioned in Saatchiarts most prestigious publication ‘Invest in art’.
