Stretched - Can be hung unframed, (no hanging hardware included) Utopia was painted after a walk through the city - the artist was taken with how the different architecture reflected the inner world of the architect . Then within the buildings were other inner worlds - Individual spaces and homes, the outer expressions of the people living in them. She started thinking about this idea of Utopia, a place where our dreams are made real and thought that perhaps without the compromise of life our dreams would be a bit hollow and perhaps the truth of Utopia is what we bring to the world. Playing with forms inspired by water, fire and smoke. Utopia is painted in an alla prima technique - wet into wet paint created in one sitting. The surface is painted with the dark ground and subsequent layers are painted in the lighter colours - pulling the dark shades into the light forms. The artist moves with the paint - using her whole body in the creation of these flowing forms - like a dance. The subject of Utopia is presented as a visceral shifting form - connected to the idea that though we seek utopia in buildings and places - it is within us all the time. “I want the viewer to feel the energy of this painting - to connect to the movement and subtly shifting forms and feel a sense of inner peace.
