About The Artwork

A white boat floats in a current of water. A man walks ashore. The white plants are there. The water is alive. The land is waiting. When I paint I have an idea but rarely have a finished image in my mind. Instead I try multiple shapes and colors and see what happens. The surface of the water in this painting was a process of colors over colors over textures combined with shapes. The same with the land. I loaded paint and used a palette knife to slash through the color with more color. I never know how it will turn out, definitely a try and error process where I pick out what works and what doesn't.

Art Van Kraft is an American artist specializing in abstract realism and figuration. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California. Always fascinated by art, he pursued the subject academically at the University of Southern California and at the Paris American Academy. He was accepted into the Los Angeles Art Association in 2015. From writing to painting Kraft’s content-driven paintings reflect his former occupation as a News Director for National Public Radio in Southern California. Kraft prides himself on being a storyteller, previously expressing himself through words, now with his paintings. The medium has changed but his stories remain the same: he paints the human condition, our personal identity and desires. Everything is not as it seems Kraft depicts bold paintings of people in environments that exude the energy of uneasiness and distortion. He is an instinctual painter, using a generic idea as a foundation, finishing the rest with intuition. He uses strong, vivid colours to develop his orchestra of images, combining the role of being a social observer with his natural artistic skill. International Acclaim Art Van Kraft has garnered global recognition by displaying his work all over the world. He has taken part in shows including: BIAF International Show Seoul, South Korea; the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, the Pavilion du Val de Grace, Paris and at NEXTGallery Palazzo Somaglia, Piacenza, Italy. He endeavours to extend his international reputation even further in the future.
