This is the first study for the Road Trip Series 2019. Conceptually, this work forms part of an idea about time. The time it takes to travel to the desert from the city, The time is takes to paint a series. The time of day. Time retrospectively impacts us in many ways. Time in the moment, becomes an issue of conditions. weather, traffic, technology, external pressures, history. Road trip 1. was the first gouache study of 22. painted en plein air, in a city park, from a lap top of a video still of a road trip that took 8 hours to Broken Hill. The process is about creating and experiencing the conditions for traditional plain air painting as per the Impressionists, a bit closer to home. Its also about connecting art with the urban community. Infused with this is the memory of the original experience, the warmth and the beauty of the outback in summer.
