Noa Noa es el diario que recoge las impresiones y pensamientos de Paul Gauguin durante su estancia en Tahití a finales del siglo XIX, a donde fue a residir buscando el paraíso perdido. Esta obra muestra la lucha interior del pintor combinando textos junto a grabados y acuarelas que luego servirían como apuntes para sus óleos. Sería publicado con una introducción y versos intercalados del poeta Charles Morice. Tengo este libro hace tiempo y como es mi costumbre tengo un lápiz a mano para destacar algunas líneas. Ya no tengo más conciencia de los días y de las horas, del mal y del bien. La felicidad es tan extraña al tiempo, que éste suprime su noción. Yo solamente sé que todo está bien, porque todo es bello. Since childhood, I have been obsessed with paper cut-outs and fashion magazines. My grandmother was a dressmaker who created fashionable suits and dresses from her own patterns. I feel that my work also follows a pattern - parts coming together like a mosaic in which I try to create harmony from a multitude of scraps, eventually finding a rhythm within repetition and patterns that resemble textile designs. My work evokes a carefree, dreamlike landscape, full of beauty, fullness of colour and textures. I take pleasure in breathing life into the idols of old movies and re-imagining them in scenes of my own making.
