About The Artwork
The name of the picture is ‘Half City'. It is inspired form the countless possibilities of the acrylic paint. As you can see the picture is broke into hundreds of different pieces of paint. The pieces are made neither on the canvas, nor the palette but on different surface, then unstick and put on the canvas. For me this is not a collage because I only use paint. The idea is that the whole world is divided into completely different tiny pieces of everything. This picture was part of a solo exhibition named “Pieces”.

Kaliya Kalacheva is an MA graduate from the National Academy of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2011 she won the Prize for Promising Young Artist from the Edmond Demirdjian Foundation. She was nominated for the 2012 MOST Award. In 2017 Kaliya won the International Artist Recognition at the Women in the Arts Awards as part of the Celebrating the Genius of Women Exhibition in Orlando, Florida, USA. In 2021 Kaliya wins the Award of the participants for painting in the National Exhibition - a competition for painting and sculpture. 2020 brings her the Prize for an emerging artist at the Burgas Biennale for Contemporary art, Burgas, Bulgaria. Her paintings are part of the collections of the Hugo Voeten Art Centre, Belgium; the Luciano Benetton Collection, Italy; the National Art Gallery and the Sofia City Art Gallery, Bulgaria. Kaliya Kalacheva was a resident artist in the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France in 2014 and in the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus, Schwandorf, Germany in 2016.
